How could we improve Flow?

You've used all your votes and won't be able to post a new idea, but you can still search and comment on existing ideas.

There are two ways to get more votes:

  1. Task Hours/Time/Length/Duration

I would love it if there was a feature in which tasks could be assigned how long they would take in hours, and could be assigned what hours in the day the task is worked on. For example a task that would take 2 hours and would show up on your daily calendar for those specifically assigned hours as blocked of, so that no one could assign a project that would overlap. Similar to iCal or Google Calendar.
This would be most helpful to make sure no one is overworked. So often where I work, project managers will just assign…

  2. Collapse all for projects in left navigation

In the left nav - i would love to be able to collapse all. I have many projects, andr it is difficult when i first log in to getflow and all the porjects in the left nave are expanded. I always have to collapse them one by one.

It’s obvious that the sidebar is hurting your ability to focus on what’s most important to you. We’re interested in making projects easier to group and filter, and helping you cut out the noise. Plans to fix this are early stage at this point, but it’s on our radar. Thanks!

  3. More list sorting options (creation date, activity date, etc)

Would be nice to be able to sort by "creation date"

  4. Enable moving a Section into a new Project

Currently you can not move a Section into a new Project (acc to Support). Given that Sections are supersets of Tasks, being able to transfer them between projects would be very helpful. Dragging it would probably be the best way to do that.

This isn’t a feature that’s on our radar just yet, so thanks for the feedback! In the meantime, one easy way to move sections and/or the tasks in those sections over to new projects is to duplicate the project. This will carry over all the sections, tasks, and task assignees, but not due dates or comments. If you find yourself using the same sections over and over again, it might be helpful to create a project that functions just as a sections template. That way, when you need to create new projects that use those sections, you just need to duplicate the template and start adding tasks to the pre-populated sections. This article will walk you through the steps: https://www.getflow.com/support/projects/duplicating-projects/
Hopefully this will help a bit!

  5. GIFs!

You cant have team chat without am easy way to share GIFs. We need a Giphy bot.

  6. Remember view preferences

I like to keep "My Tasks" and "Calendar" in "Sort by Date" and "list" view respectively. However if I log out and back in (seems to happen on certain refreshes or submit errors as well) a bug maybe? it defaults to list views which I don't like personally. It's annoying to have to change these view settings at every login. Any chance of tweaking so that it remembers our user preferences?

Agreed that this would be an improvement. We’re putting it in our backlog, but don’t have immediate plans to work on it. Thanks!

  7. Windows Phone 8 app

A native Windows Phone 8 app would be great!

We have no plans for a dedicated Windows 8 app at this time. Our mobile web app will, however, become more powerful as time goes on.

  8. Archive Workspaces

I would like to be able to archive workspaces. We use a workspace for each client we work with. Once all current projects are complete I would like to be able to archive and not miss previous history of work if they client opens a new project.

Still a good idea! :) It’s in our backlog, but not in this year’s plans.

  9. Duplicate Groups

Whilst you're working on project and task templates, it would be great to be able to duplicate a group of projects.

I have clients on a monthly retainer and so have a project group called Retained Work, with a separate project for each month.

I'd love to be able to duplicate the Retained Work group, including all monthly projects, and move to the relevant client's workspace.

I can totally see how this would be a useful feature but because you can duplicate projects at this time, duplicating groups is not on our immediate road map though it is something we are considering!

  10. Advanced Search Options

When performing a search, all related results are returned. Frequently, all we want to see is open tasks. It would be nice to have a way to exclude deleted or completed tasks from our search when we want to - advanced search options. Maybe it could include the ability to select a date range, attachments, people, tags? Thank you!

I can see how advanced search options would be helpful. We’d like to build this, we just don’t have immediate plans to do so.

  11. Restrict Guest Comments

We love the idea of being able to add guests to projects so that they can observe its progress, but would like there to be an option to restrict their ability to leave comments in tasks.

We don't want our guests to have the ability to directly interact with our team members. We'd prefer our project manager be the only one to communicate with them.

Please consider making this a feature as it would really help to eliminate the confusion a client can create when they try to insert themselves into conversations about tasks.

  12. Phone home screen widgets

Ideally a calendar view widget to add to home screen would be really useful.
A quick task creation widget would be useful, too.

  13. Dashboard: Filter for all activity except my own

Generally when I am scanning the dashboard, it is to keep up to date with what others on my team are doing. It would be really helpful ti have a filter which does all activity except my own for that use case.

We’ve started work on a dashboard that is better at helping you process the tasks that need your attention. A bonus is that it not longer repeats what you know you said.

  14. View comments on project level

It would be great to be able to see all comments from the tasks in a project on the project level. New to Flow, so it may be doable?

Hey, this isn’t exactly what you asked for, but today we added in project notes so that there’s a place to share important details about project progress and otherwise. We’re still planning to find a way to roll up project-level discussion, but thought I’d share a little update that might help. :)

  15. File attachments should be a separate option from comments

I would like to be able to click on a files icon when I select a task that lists all of the files attached to that task.

We do not currently have plans for this, though that may change as tasks become more powerful, requiring more organization.

  16. Paste multiple lines as tasks

When pasting multiple lines in a list, create one task per new line. Makes it easier to add items from an IM conversation, email thread, or importing from other project management tools

  17. Create and track Google Docs from within Flow

It would be really great if you could click a button within a Flow task to create a new Google Doc (or sheet) — and have flow automatically update the task with a link to the new associated Google Doc.

Right now, we have to log in separately to Google, create a doc, update the doc's sharing permissions, and then copy and paste a link to the doc back into the flow task. A more native integration would save lots of time!

  18. Subtask below each task

I think it would be a good idea to have a option to display in the main task view the subtasks of each task just below each one, indented end with a smaller font and checkbox. This could be even an expandable list when clicked or hovered the task. For me this improvement would provide a better view of how complicated the task are and how much work remains to be done.

To visualize what I have in mind I attach a file with a simple and fast draw. I believe you will do it in a more elegant way.

We don’t have any plans to enhance subtasks in such a way at this point in time.

  19. All Tasks view

A favorite view that shows all tasks in a workspace (and allows you to sort and view in Kanban as well.)

  20. Due Date Default Tomorrow

It would be nice if the default due date would be set to today or tomorrow. This would force the user to specify a date if not today and it saves time when adding a lot of tasks with unspecified due dates. In the current setting there is always a risk that an important task ends up in the pile at the end of your list because you forgot to specify the due date.

Would be even better if you can set your own default due date; always tomorrow / always today / always one week ahead / etc.
